MEI International was born from a revolutionary artisanal idea that gave rise to a new production method. Before 1974 labels were made using shuttle looms: MEI invented (and patented) a new loom equipped with thermal cutting that cut larger fabric into strips, speeding up label production. In 1975, MEI introduced its first machine during ITMA Milan, a global textile exhibition.

Giancarlo Saporiti founds MEI International.
1975

ITMA Milan, Italy. MEI introduces the first thermal cutting loom for label manufacturing, which decreases production times and revolutionizes the woven label industry.
1986

MEI launches the first label machine with an electronic jacquard.
1995
ITMA Milan, Italy. MEI introduces looms equipped with USC technology (Ultrasound Cutting), meaning the first Super-soft edge cutting device.
1996
ITMA Greenville, USA. MEI launches the first loom designed for acrylic scarves.
2000
MEI’s air-jet technology is introduced in the label weaving industry with Dornier.
2004
MEI introduces a touch-screen panel for the new auto-diagnostic cutting device.
2007
ITMA Munich, Germany. MEI launches “Prestige” high-definition labels with a satin machine.
2011
ITMA Barcelona, Spain. MEI develops the ability to manufacture labels that feature a unique QR code, to guarantee their authenticity and combat counterfeiting.
2013
In collaboration with an esteemed footwear company, MEI introduces a new loom for the manufacturing of shoe uppers.
2015
ITMA Milan, Italy. MEI integrates a new touch-screen loom management system for Android. MEI launches the Yoshida, jacquard and dobby shuttle loom, and becomes the first company in the world to introduce the new air-jet Toyota label loom.
2019
ITMA Barcelona, Spain. MEI develops and launches SUNFLEX 350, a laser machine with Never-Ending technology for extremely precise and high-quality label cutting.
2023
ITMA Milan, Italy. MEI introduces the digital “web monitoring” tool for label manufacturing analysis.
